Holistic Veterinary Service was created to serve the needs of large and small animal owners in Blacksburg, Christiansburg and New Castle, and surrounding counties.

Basic veterinary home care is offered with an integrated approach to animal health. Acupuncture, botanical medicine, and nutritional therapies are available in conjunction with conventional medicine.
Dr. Lewter's goal is to offer conventional and alternative medical therapy to her community for pets and livestock. The best possible care can usually be given in the home environment using all the methods available for preventing illness and enhancing wellness.

Please call (540) 616-9247 to set up a telephone consultation appointment, home visit, or office visit. Appointment times are arranged to suit individual needs. Telephone consults are also available. Some patients will require referral to a service hospital for diagnostic tests, surgery, or intensive care.

About Dr. Lewter

Dr. Marjorie M. Lewter is a Virginia native and attended Virginia Tech to receive degrees in Animal Science and Biology in 1977. Veterinary training was completed at the University of Georgia in 1981. Dr. Lewter completed an internship in the Dept. of Rural Practice at the University of Tennessee.

From 1982 until 1990 Dr. Lewter was associate veterinarian in a mixed practice in Pennsylvania and worked primarily with dairy cattle. For the next ten years Dr. Lewter concentrated on the study and practice of complementary medicine. She completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society certification in 1992 and the IVAS Chinese herbal medicine course in 1995. Currently, Dr. Lewter's Focus is on holistic general practice and she is an active member of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association.
